Pastels enable an artist to create wonderful effects indicating mist, heavy snow, the play of light on water or trees, or other special effects. I love the subtle greys and pinks and the ability to merge colours. One can also achieve very bright colours! It’s a very rewarding format. Drawing and observation are an imperative for any artist. I particularly enjoyed a course run by the Aborealist artist, Fiona McIntyre, at Marlborough College Summer School in 2018, which enabled participants to use an incredibly wide range of drawing materials. A few of my efforts can be seen below along with some more recent pieces. Whilst spending time in London over the last couple of years I have rediscovered the joys of painting in acrylics with their vibrant colours.
